Seoul, the capital of the Republic of Korea, is called a special city, a local government. It is located in the center of the Korean Peninsula and stretches north and south across the Han River. The northern end is Dobong-dong, Dobong-gu, the east end is Sangil-dong, Gangdong-gu, the southern end is Wonji-dong, Seocho-gu, and the west end is Ogok-dong, Gangseo-gu. In accordance with the 'Special Act on the Establishment of Sejong City' promulgated on December 27, 2010, the former Yeongi-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, part of Gongju-si (Uidang-myeon, Janggi-myeon, Banpo-myeon), and part of Cheongwon-gun (Buyong-myeon) of Chungcheongbuk-do were absorbed in July 2012. On the 1st, it was officially launched as the 17th metropolitan government.

It faces the East Sea to the east, borders Chungcheongbuk-do and Jeollabuk-do to the west, Gangwon-do and Chungcheongbuk-do to the north, and Daegu Metropolitan City and Gyeongsangnam-do to the south. The Taebaek and Sobaek Mountains, their branches, and the Donghae-ro border with the surrounding areas, and has the most circular shape in the country, forming a typical geographic district as well as an administrative district.

It is located at 125°58′ to 127°54′ east longitude and 35°18′ to 36°09′ north latitude. To the east is Sancheong-gun and Geochang-gun in Gyeongsangnam-do, and the main ridges of Gimcheon and Sobaek Mountains in Gyeongsangbuk-do are bordered by the main ridges of the Gimcheon and Sobaek Mountains in Gyeongsangbuk-do. It faces Yeongdong-gun of Chungcheongbuk-do and faces the Yellow Sea to the west.

It is the second largest city in Korea and the number one trading port. The east and south face the sea, the west faces Jangyu-dong and Changwon-si Jinhae-gu, the north faces Mulgeum-eup of Yangsan-si and Daedong-myeon of Gimhae-si, and the east faces Seosaeng-myeon and Onyang-eup of Ulsan City. As the gateway to the southeastern part of Korea, it is about 450 km southeast of Seoul and about 250 km away from Shimonoseki [下關] in Japan along the Korea Strait. It is made up of 15 districts in District 1, with an area of 765.94 km2. The city hall is located at 1000 Yeonsan 5-dong, Yeonje-gu, Busan.

It faces Jeju Island across the Dadohae Sea and the Jeju Strait to the south, and borders Jeollabuk-do through the Noryeong Mountains to the north.
